Ian Update

Ian never threw up again after Thursday, but it took several days for him to feel better. He had two really good days on Monday and Tuesday, but today was a disaster. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and we will continue to see improvement with his new reflux medication, Prevacid.

He's learned how to scream and make a really weird noise that sounds like he's choking (but he's not). He's got a new Nemo that he loves (from his Grandmom). Still no rolling over, but he does roll onto his side really well. Up until today, when he went on a solid food strike, he was really enjoying sweet potatoes, peaches, pears, applesauce. He'll eat, but doesn't love, carrots and peas. He also has decided that he doesn't want the cereal from the box that cost like 2 cents per serving. Nah, he wants the cereal that comes in the jar mixed with fruit. :) He's such a booger.

I'm gearing up to go back to work (*sob*). He'll be alternating between my mom and a babysitter (Denise). He seems to be doing ok at both places, but I'm worried because he can be so fussy. I feel so bad leaving them with a crying, fussy baby.

In addition to our reflux issues, Ian is teething. We've been saying this for a month, and still no teeth yet. I swear they are coming though. Every morning I stick my finger in his mouth and hope that the "tooth fairy" has visited.

On a totally unrelated note, Walmart is evil. Why they can't ORGANIZE that store is beyond me. Posted by Picasa

Attack of the Sweet Potatoes, part Deux

They look ok going in, but coming out is a whole other story. My baby is sick. :( He threw up four times in an hour (a lovely orange shade I might add). We waited 1.5 hours at the peds and another 20 mintues in CVS to get pedialite and to drop off a perscription (he's getting new meds for his reflux - prevacid). I must go comfort the ailing child, but more updates later. Posted by Picasa

I learned how to do selective colors in black and white photos. This is my first attempt. Posted by Picasa

... and the little one said....

Roll over! Roll over! This morning Ian rolled from his belly to his back! :) We were so proud of him. Now there will be NO keeping him on his belly. He's also started pushing up more with his arms. When I picked him up at the sitters on Friday she said, "I tried putting him on his belly today..." All I could say was, "I shoulda warned you!" Posted by Picasa

Green Stuff

Ian had peas today. He was not impressed. I wish I had my camera. The faces were priceless. Posted by Picasa

Happy 5 Month Birthday!

Dear Ian,

Today you are five months old. You are a big boy, weighing about 18lbs and 26ish inches long. You wear 6-9 month clothes and even some 12 month clothes. You eat solid food three times a day. So far your favorite foods are sweet potatoes and applesauce. You don't love your cereal, but you have to eat it because it gives you lots of iron. You really love your sippy cup.

When you get excited you start kicking your legs and waving your arms. Speaking of kicking you love to kick your mother! You have also started to recognize things; the bottle, the sippy cup, the spoon, the jar of food. We think you finally know your name, and you have also learned to shake your head "no".

Your favorite toys are still the same - the baby gym, the swing, the bouncey. You like to grab for things now, and everything goes right into your mouth. You often get mad when you can't get something in your mouth. You love to be sung too, and your favorite song is "5 Little Monkeys".

You still cry a lot, and I feel like I am failing you because I can't make it better. Know that I love you a lot and that I'll keep trying to make you happy.

You're working on sitting up. You don't roll over yet and you still hate to be on your belly.

I love you more and more everyday.

Rolling... Sorta

Ian still doesn't roll over, but he is rolling onto his side now. He's also getting really close to getting that foot in his mouth! Posted by Picasa

Random Thoughts

Ian is teething. Teething is bad.

Today I noticed that Ian's feet are hanging over the edge of his infant carrier. I remember looking at other kids with their feet hanging out over the edge of the carrier and thinking, that's not going to be my kid. Ha. It's my kid.

Ian learned to shake his head no. Not in context, but it's still pretty funny.

So far he's eaten peaches, pears, apples & sweet potatoes. He's also had rice cereal and oatmeal.

He's been eating better this week and I'm wondering if we're going to need to add a third "meal" soon. Posted by Picasa

Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness

I feel melancholy about returning to work. There are some days that I feel like I've reached the staturation level of stay at home motherhood and then there are other days that I look at my son and want to cry, because I'll be missing so much. I'm happy that he'll be able to stay with his grandmom most of the time and he'll be with Denise the rest of the time. I know that both will dote on him and probably give him more attention and patience than I could. But looking back at my little guy and thinking about all the changes he's already made, I just can't beleive it's almost time to go back to work.

This picture was taken on the day he was born. August was like a distant island, that I never imagined I was going to get to. Now my little booger is almost five months old.

Ok. I have to go get some tissues now. Posted by Picasa

A Note from the Desk of Kelli

Dear Toothfairy,

I know that you like to take people's teeth, but I was wondering if you could help Ian get his teeth. Ian has been pretty miserable lately because he is teething, and I know he'll feel better once those teeth come in. I'd be happy to leave you a dollar.

Yours Truely,
Kelli Posted by Picasa

Ian loves to lick, but he didn't seem to enjoy getting liked by Chelsea and Hanna (Aunt Melissa's dogs). Ian went swimming again today, and again seemed indifferent to the whole thing. Posted by Picasa

The Most Interesting Thing

To Ian, the most interesting thing in the world are his hands and feet. This has been going on for weeks now. He just stares at them. I never knew hands and feet were so exciting. Posted by Picasa

My Child is too Smart

It looks like he is sleeping, but he's not. Today, Ian learned that when the orange light blinks on the front of the camera, the flash is going to go off, so he closes his eyes. Lovely. :) Posted by Picasa
